Description: Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)
MLD, a gentle manual technique, is a potent way to activate the lymphatic system, especially when the transport capacity of the lymph vessel is reduced because of prior surgery and/or radiation therapy.
Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT)
CDT is a combination of MLD, bandaging of the affected areas, remedial exercises, and skin and nail care. CDT is divided into a two-phase program that initially involves an intensive treatment phase and is then followed by a maintenance program continued by the patient at home. Carried out with great care and consistency by a certified lymphedema therapist, CDT is the treatment of choice for chronic extremity lymphedema. Even in advanced lymphedema, CDT achieves excellent results with no side effects.
Deep Tissue Massage
More anatomically specific than Swedish Massage Therapy, Deep Tissue Massage Therapy focuses on relieving dysfunction in specific muscle groups, tendons, ligaments and connective tissue. This type of massage is often integrated with other massage techniques during a massage session.
Using generous warming techniques, therapists go deep into the client's tissue and identify areas where adhesions, scar tissue, and diminished blood flow are creating pain. The muscles must be relaxed for the massage therapist to effectively perform Deep Tissue Massage Therapy, otherwise tight surface muscles will prevent the access to deeper muscle tissues.
By increasing blood flow and breaking up adhesions and fibrous areas of tissue with deep kneading, friction, and pressure, tension and pain are released. This helps with chronic muscular pain and injury rehabilitation. Deep Tissue Massage Therapy also reduces inflammation-related pain caused by arthritis and tendonitis.
