Cookies and You

Note, there are two kinds of cookies in the world: session and persistent.  A "session" cookie, as used by our web site, is only temporary and will be destroyed as soon as you exit your browser.  For your privacy and protection, our web site has been designed to work successfully with temporary session cookies only.  "Persistent" cookies, which are stored on your computer's hard drive until an expiration date set by the web site, are an alternative.  However, we do not use "persistent" cookies unless you specifically choose a "remember me on this computer" option.

If you are just a visitor...  You are not required to accept any cookie to visit our web site.  However, our web site will attempt to serve you a temporary session-only cookie in the event you are willing to accept one.  If your browser accepts the cookie, (1) it will contain an anonymous unique identifier that cannot be read or used by anyone else and (2) it will disappear completely whenever you exit your browser.  As a visitor, you do not need to accept this cookie, but if you do, it may, in some circumstances, save you some typing if you need to do a variety of searches for the right holistic provider.  If you do not accept the cookie, you will still be able to search for a holistic provider in any way you like, but you may, in some circumstances, have to re-enter some of your search criteria from one search to the next.

If you are a member/friend, or you would like to register as a member/friend... then your browser preferences must be enabled to accept temporary session cookies from our server (www.holisticanywhere.com).  The cookie will give you (and only you) permission to review and update your account with us.  As with visitor cookies, this temporary cookie contains only an anonymous unique identifier that cannot normally be read or used by anyone else.  It will disappear completely whenever you exit your browser or logout.  Please understand, for YOUR security, if you do not accept the cookie, you will not be able to access the members-only or friends-only areas of the web site.

To use a "remember me on this computer" option... your browser preferences must be enabled to accept persistent cookies from our server as well as temporary session cookies.  If you choose this option, a persistent cookie will be saved on your hard drive which will enable you (and anyone else who uses your computer) to access those features of our web site without having to log back in.  This is a convenience for you, but for your privacy and security, and because this persistent cookie may contain your username, password and/or e-mail address, you should not use the "remember me on this computer" option if you share your computer with other people.  Our persistent cookie will remain on your hard drive until it expires or you clear the cookies in your browser.

If we report to you that your browser is not accepting our cookie, please follow the instructions below to enable cookies in your browser:

Internet Explorer 6.x

1. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
2. Select the Privacy tab.
3. If a slider is displayed, adjust the slider to any privacy level you feel comfortable with, other than "Block All Cookies".  Our web site is designed to work even under the High privacy level (as shown below), though Medium is the default setting as shipped by Microsoft.
4. If no slider is displayed, you can either:
   • click the Advanced button and set the Always allow session cookies option.
   • -or- click the Edit button, enter the web address "www.HolisticAnywhere.com" in the form field and click the Allow button to enable cookies specifically for this web site.
5. Click OK.

Internet Explorer 5.x

1. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
2. Select the Security tab.
3. Click Custom Level....
4. Scroll down to the Cookies section.
5. Set Allow per-session cookies to Enable.
6. Click OK.

Internet Explorer 4.x

1. Select "View | Internet Options..." from the main menu.
2. Select the "Security" tab.
3. Select "Custom" and click "Settings..."
4. Scroll down to the "Security" section.
5. Select "Always accept cookies" (or "Prompt before accepting cookies" if you prefer)
6. Click OK.

Internet Explorer 5 for Macintosh

1. From the Explorer menu select Preferences.
2. Expand the Receiving Files menu and select Cookies.
3. From the drop-down menu after When receiving cookies, select Never Ask.
4. Click OK.

Netscape 7.x for PC

1. From the Edit menu select Preferences.
2. Expand the Privacy & Security menu.
3. Select Cookies.
4. Check the radio button for Enable all cookies.
5. Click OK.

Netscape 6.x for PC

1. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
2. From the Privacy and Security submenu, select Cookies.
3. Select either the option to Enable all cookies or Enable cookies for the originating web site only.
4. Make sure the option to Warn me before accepting a cookie is not selected.
5. Click OK.

Netscape 4.x for PC

1. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
2. Select the word "Advanced" (not the "+") to expand the Advanced settings menu.
3. Select either the radio button to Accept all cookies or Accept only cookies that get sent back to the originating server.
4. Make sure the option to Warn me before accepting a cookie is not selected.
5. Click OK.

Mozilla

1. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
2. Expand the Privacy & Security menu.
3. Select Cookies.
4. Either (a) check the radio button to Enable all cookies - or -
   (b) check the radio button for Enable cookies based on privacy settings, and click the adjacent View button to select the desired privacy level (e.g. High, Medium or Low) in the Privacy Settings window (and click OK).
5. Click OK.
